THERMAFIED PROCESS

Big Sky Thermafied takes great pride in our proprietary process being one of the most effective in the Thermal lumber industry.
In layman’s terms, we are dehydrating and petrifying lumber for added benefits.
All the sugars and water are drained (food for insects and fungi).

LONGEVITY
Molecularly, the wood has completely changed. Cells collapsed and a hardened case produced.

STABILITY
The lumber is conditioned through extreme heat.

AESTHETIC VALUE
Use of a controlled cool down phase which allows all Thermafied to be milled to your specs including T&G, Shiplap, Bevel, and 100’s more.

ACCLIMATION FOR EASE OF WORKMANSHIP
When your raw lumber enters the kiln and the doors are closed, a methodical heating process takes over and dehydrates the lumber to a zero percent moisture content. This usually occurs in the first 24-36 hour phase. The next phase is introducing a controlled recipe with high heat to attain your desired color. At this point, the lumber is becoming stabilized for longevity. The final process is 4-8 hours of a temperate cool down phase.
Throughout the entire process, all oxygen levels are monitored and controlled to avoid potential burning or fire within our chamber.
Total dry time for 1” material is around 3-½ days. The beauty of our Thermafied process, is it allows us to take the product right into our mill for the pattern of your choosing.
Big Sky Thermafied believes our process to be the best in the industry.
